Abstract
A convenient synthesis of an isotopically-labelled version (C-13,H-2(3)) of the long-acting beta(2)-adrenergic agonist, salmeterol, is described, star ting from methyl salicylate, 1,6-dibromohexane and 4-phenyl-1-butanol. This compound was designed as an analytical internal standard for mass spectrom etric determination of salmeterol in pharmacokinetic studies.
