Lj. Mcewen, CHANNEL PLANFORM ADJUSTMENT AND STREAM POWER VARIATIONS ON THE MIDDLERIVER COE, WESTERN GRAMPIAN HIGHLANDS, SCOTLAND, Catena, 21(4), 1994, pp. 357-374
This paper assesses the spatial variations in types and rates of chann
el migration over an historical time-period on the middle River Coe, W
estern Grampians, Scotland. The study reach represents an exceptional
example of an integrated channel system, which displays progressive do
wnstream adjustment in both hydraulic geometry and planform characteri
stics from a mountain torrent environment, through a wandering gravel-
bed river section to a low-angle, gravel delta within a fluvio-lacustr
ine environment above Loch Achtriochtan. Spatial and temporal variatio
ns in channel planform adjustment and floodplain reworking are related
to variations in bankfull discharge, associated stream power and chan
nel competence.
