Abstract
The authors report the first demonstration of an all-optical regenerat or tested in a long-distance transmission experiment, using 20Gbit/s s olitons. All-optical clock recovery from a mode-locked semiconductor r ing laser and polarisation-independent all-optical phase modulation in a Kerr fibre provides in-line regeneration over a distance of 6500km.
