The use of artificial left ventricle "NOVACOR-N100" in the treatment of critical heart failure (first experience in Russia)

The paper presents first experience of the use in Russia of an artificial c ardiac left ventricle "NOVACOR-N100" as an independent method of surgical t reatment of critical heart failure. The device has been implanted to a pati ent aged 48 years with dilated cardiomyopathy with limited chance for survi val without surgery. Main medical and technical characteristics of the syst em are described. Clinical status of the patient prior to surgery and in im mediate and remote (9 months) postoperative period is presented. Indication s and contraindications to implantation of artificial cardiac left ventricl e, possible variants of its application and approaches to postoperative car e and treatment of postoperative complications are thoroughly discussed.
