SHARABLE ENGINEERING KNOWLEDGE DATABASES FOR INTELLIGENT SYSTEM APPLICATIONS

This paper describes a sharable engineering knowledge database for cap turing and accessing information about the structure, functions and be haviors of chemical process systems. The database is configurable and designed for reuse across processes and for a variety of intelligent s ystem applications. In this paper we present a formalism based on Func tional Representation (FR) that is the unification of earlier variants dedicated to specific applications. Reuse for multiple applications i s illustrated with a unified database example applied to both design c ritique and HAZOP.
