This article is concerned with the historical evolution and the present sta
te of education for librarians in Slovenia, based on statistical data, It f
ocusses on the 1987/1988 curriculum which takes into account the growing im
portance of computer science. Nowadays, the studies also include psychologi
cal subjects. The article contains comparative information about librarians
' education in Western Europe taken from the study "World Guide to Library,
Archive and Information Science Education". The author deducts that educat
ion in Slovenia and Western Europe is largely identical, yet requires some
improvement.
