Abstract
The present case study describes a 5-month follow-up of five severely distu rbed preadolescents with a comorbid diagnosis treated with citalopram or fl uoxetine. The outcome was evaluated with the Child Behavior Checklist and t he Clinical Global Impressions Scale. The selective serotonin reuptake inhi bitor treatment was clearly effective in three of five cases. All these cas es had a diagnosis of major depressive disorder. Only mild untoward effects , which were transient, were reported in two cases.
