Abstract
Important additions have been made to the MEROPS database (http://www.bi.bb src.ac.uk/Merops/Merops htm). These include sequence alignments and cladogr ams for many of the families of peptidases, and these have proved very help ful in the difficult task of distinguishing the sequences of peptidases tha t are simply species variants of already known enzymes from:those that repr esent novel enzymes.
