Abstract
Potent antiretroviral treatment has led to a dramatic decrease in HIV-assoc iated morbidity and mortality. This paper reviews (1) current recommendations for the initiation of antiretroviral therapy, (2) the natural history of HIV infection after initiation of treatment, and (3) toxicity and resistance issues.
