The paper investigates the role of low- and high-order harmonics, superpose
d to a 50 Hz fundamental magnetic flux density waveform, on iron losses in
NO Fe-Si laminations. The effect on the fundamental contributions of the lo
sses (classical and hysteresis + excess items) is evaluated by means of a c
ombined finite element - dynamic hysteresis model of the ferromagnetic shee
t. A comparison with the prediction of the statistical theory of losses is
finally presented and discussed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights
