The influence of a reduced sigma-meson mass on previously calculated in-med
ium pi pi correlations in the J =1=0 (sigma-meson) channel is investigated.
It is found that the invariant-mass distribution around the vacuum thresho
ld experiences a further strong enhancement with respect to standard many-b
ody effects. The relevance of this result for the explanation of recent A(p
i,2 pi)X data is pointed out.
