In a recent paper [Phys. Rev. C 57, 3406 (1998)] the performance of some qu
ark potential models formulated in terms of effective interactions between
constituent quarks has been studied. From this work the authors conclude th
at the quark models considered, including one-gluon exchange forces, fail i
n describing the baryon spectra. In this Comment we want to state precisely
the working scheme followed in the above-mentioned paper to arrive at thei
r conclusions, in order to show how the followed procedure makes some some
of their statements invalid.
