Abstract
A new species of snapping shrimp from Sri Lanka is described and illustrate d. Alpheus sorer is a free living cryptospecies, closely related to A. grac ilipes Coutiere, an apparently widely distributed member of the A. diadema species group. The status of some alpheid cryptospecies is discussed.
