A framework is presented for step-by-step implementation of weighted-residu
al methods (MWR) for simulations that require the solution of boundary-valu
e problems. A set of MATLAB-based functions of the computationally common M
WR solution steps has been developed and is used in the application of eige
nfunction expansion, collocation, and Galerkin-projection discretizations o
f time dependent, distributed-parameter system models. Four industrially re
levant examples taken from electronic materials and chemical processing app
lications are used to demonstrate the simulation approach developed. This l
ibrary of functions and several demonstration scrips can be obtained from t
he MWRtools project Website located at http://www.ench.umd.edu/software/MWR
tools.
