The applicability of popular thermal analysis methods like the one pro
posed by Ozawa and Kissinger, or the one derived from the Avrami kinet
ic formalism, to non-isothermal nucleation and growth transformation k
inetics, is reassessed. Restrictions and limitations of both technique
s are reevaluated, in order to clarify when and under which transforma
