For a pyoverdin isolated from Pseudomonas putida it could be shown that Lys
is incorporated into the peptide chain by its epsilon-amine group in contr
ast to the normally observed connection by the alpha-amino group. The struc
ture elucidation of the pyoverdin by chemical degradation and spectroscopic
methods is reported and the criteria-for the distinction between alpha- an
d epsilon-connection in the case of Lps are discussed.
