This paper presents empirical results in regard to social determinants of a
ctive life-expectancy in Germany. The concept of active life-expectancy her
e refers to the analysis of old-age impairments. The analysis is based on m
ultistate life-tables and is drawn from the German Socio-Economic Panel (GS
OEP). An interesting result - among others - is that the advantage for men
of being married is smaller than for women. On the contrary, the effect of
family status on life-expectancy is larger for women than for men.
