Ay. Borisov et Mv. Fok, How to verify experimentally the validity of a polaron model of excitationtrapping in reaction centers of photosynthesis, BIOFIZIKA, 44(6), 1999, pp. 1031-1036
The widely accepted <<classical>> model of reaction center functioning seem
s to come into contradiction with some recent data [1]. Therefore we sugges
ted to modernize this model by involving a new femtosecond state in the rea
ction center special pairs. This state must precede the primary e-transfer
reaction due to the reorientation and shift of mobile hydrogen atoms in the
electric field of the excited special pair of the reaction center. During
the last years, this hypothetical mechanism received support from some expe
rimental studies and now it claims to fit all reliable experimental data at
least in bacterial photosynthesis. In this article the problem is analyzed
how to verify whether the above metioned femtosecond state, with shifted h
ydrogens around the reaction center special pair does exist in vivo.
