Mj. Mason et Dm. Linnenberg, Applying public health science to the counselling profession: an initial examination, BR J GUID C, 27(4), 1999, pp. 527-537
The application of public health science to the counselling profession is e
xamined. Specifically, the public-health practices of prevention and epidem
iology are reviewed for their applicability to the field of counselling. Ev
idence of the counselling profession's substantial involvement in the preve
ntion research field is provided through an examination of recent major met
aanalysis articles on prevention studies. The role of the counselling profe
ssion in: social-policy development, and the interrelation between this typ
e of social/political engagement and the solidification of the counselling
field within the spectrum of mental-health services, are explored.
