Abstract
The complex of p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene with l-lysine shows a new type of i ntercalation behaviour with regard to the achiral hydrophobic bilayer assem bly of the calixarenes, and represents the first structural example of a ca tionic organic substrate spanning such a bilayer.
