Abstract
Recent results show that the establishment of wing melanization patterns in Drosophila depends on the veins. While several genes have been shown to pl ay a role in melanization, changes in a single gene - the one encoding tyro sine hydroxylase - are sufficient to generate novel pigmentation patterns.
