Abstract
Dual polarization is a method used in microwave power transmission by which the received power can be doubled relatively easily. The method is to use dual orthogonal polarization simultaneously in the vertical and horizontal directions with the same amplitude in both the transmitting and the receivi ng systems, which doubles the power flux density at the receiving point. In the dual polarization rectenna, it is desirable to align the polarization directions of the transmitter and the receiver. When, however, the rectenna is installed on an aircraft, the polarization directions of the transmitte r and the receiver are not maintained in the specified direction, due to th e attitude of the aircraft, and the directions may form a certain angle. It may also happen that the vertical and horizontal polarized waves do not ha ve the same amplitude, and the amplitude ratio must be considered. In this article, it is assumed that the transmitter sends the dual polarized waves. The polarization angle characteristics of the dual polarization rectenna a re experimentally examined when the amplitude ratio is varied from the line ar polarization to the complete dual polarization. The validity of the dual polarized waves is confirmed through comparison with the case of the circu lar polarization transmission system. (C) 2000 Scripta Technica.
