In the networks of regular topology proposed in the past, such as BMSN or S
huffle Net, the number of nodes constituting the network is restricted, but
GEMNET has wide expandability due to the fact that a network can have any
number of nodes; it also is superior to other networks in the average hop c
ount and throughput. However, in GEMNET, even when each node sends the pack
ets to other nodes uniformly, the load of each node varies and the degree o
f this variation depends on the number of nodes. In this article, the effec
ts of the variance of the distribution of load on the throughput character
are examined, and it is shown that high throughput can be obtained by the u
se of EI network configuration that has a small variance of load distributi
on for any given number of nodes. (C) 2000 Scripta Technica.
