Abstract
An all-optical beam deflection as high as 1.1 mrad has been obtained in bac teriorhodopsin for a CW pump intensity of similar to 930 W/cm(2). This is o ne of the highest non-thermal all-optical deflections for a low driving int ensity in a biological medium, which may find application in optical deflec tors or space division all-optical switches.
