Abstract
The origins, purpose, and scope of the Non-Domestic Building Stock (NDBS) d atabase of England and Wales are described. Nondomestic buildings are defin ed and sources of the data used in the database are identified. The structu re of the database, and the role of the classification of nondomestic build ings, are described and discussed.
