Treatment with 0.4 mol dm(-3) NaCl caused a C-3-CAM shift in Mesembryanthem
um crystallinum L. leaves. In parallel to the CAM induction the activity of
CAT was significantly decreased. In C-3 and in CAM plants CAT activity sho
wed daily fluctuations, with the maximum at the end of the light period. Th
e oscillations of CAT were more pronounced in CAM than in C-3 plants. In M.
crystallinum CAT activity seems to respond more to CAM induction than to s
alinity.
