Ahm. Evensen et al., RELEASE AND YIELDS FROM THORIUM AND URANIUM TARGETS IRRADIATED WITH APULSED PROTON-BEAM, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section B, Beam interactions with materials and atoms, 126(1-4), 1997, pp. 160-165
Radioactive ion-beams produced from various uranium and thorium target
s at the ISOLDE mass separator facility are presented. The targets are
bombarded with 1 GeV protons delivered by the PS-Booster at CERN. The
target materials are uranium carbide and thorium carbide, both prepar
ed from the oxides or diphtalocyanines of uranium and thorium. Due to
the pulsed structure of the PS-Booster, release can be measured as a f
unction of time for a number of elements. Beam intensities and delay t
ime distributions of the alkali-metals, the earth-alkalis, the boron g
roup and the noble gases measured from the described targets are discu
ssed, Comparisons are made between the target materials and with ISOLD
E beam intensities produced by 600 MeV protons from the CERN synchrocy
clotron.
