Studies of cyclic voltammetry of [Fe(CN)(6)](4-) at a gold electrode modifi
ed by thiocyanate under N-2 atmosphere in aqueous medium in presence of KCl
, NaCl and LiCl show that the alkali metal cations induce a weak and revers
ible adsorption of the electroactive anion on the negatively charged gold s
urface and the adsorbed species undergoes electron transfer. The adsorption
pattern is found to follow Temkin isotherm. The standard free energies of
adsorption are found to be ca. -4 kcal mol(-1).
