Abstract
This paper is mainly concerned with mixing of four axial rectangular confin ed jets with a central jet, so as to find the effect of swirl on the flow d evelopment. The swirl numbers used are 0, 0.5 and 1.0. The numerical scheme employed is a finite difference procedure using SIMPLE algorithm. For phys ical modelling, standard two equation k-epsilon model has been used with mo difications to take care of stream line curvature due to swirl. The wall ef fects have been taken into account using wall functions. Velocity field, tu rbulence kinetic energy and length scale have been predicted. The present s tudy reveals that the central swirling jet plays an important role in the m ixing and development of recirculation zone, The findings are useful in the application of ramjet and gas turbine combustion systems.
