The annual biocalcification of aragonite by Macoma birmanica was found to b
e 314.3 g m(-2)y(-1) which is 2.5 times higher than biomass production and
almost equal to the elimination rate, 311.4 g m(-2)y(-1) . Rapid response o
f this biogenous aragonite to the processes of neutralization of the the an
thropogenic carbon dioxide through its dissolution was observed, which was
almost close to its maximum capacity.
