Bk. Soni et al., Effect of pre-irradiation deformation on thermoluminescence of divalent impurity doped alkali halide crystals, I J PA PHYS, 37(12), 1999, pp. 870-875
The effect or pre-irradiation deformation on the thermoluminescence (TL) of
alkali halide crystals has been reported. The pre-irradiation deformation
causes increase in the thermoluminescence intensity corresponding to both t
he TL glow peaks of alkali halide crystals. The dependence of TL intensity
corresponding to first and second TL peaks on pre-irradiation deformation f
ollows the relations, I-mt = I-m1(0), exp(xi epsilon)and I-m2 = I-m2(0) exp
xi'epsilon respectively. It is shown that the dislocation debris created d
uring prior deformation of crystals trap the interstitials, which causes de
crease in the probability of back reaction, i.e.. the recombination between
interstitials anti vacancies. This results increase in the probability of
the formation of stable F-centres. Consequently. for. the same radiation do
ses given to the crystals. the density of F-centres and thereby the TL inte
nsity increases with the pre-irradiation deformation of alkali halide cryst
als.
