Abstract
Thermoluminescence properties of cabal glass of composition 31.5, 51 and 17 .5 mol.% CaO, B2O3 and Al2O3, respectively. were investigated to study the effect of Ho2O3, Sm2O3 and Nd2O3 or of Sm2O3 in conjunction with Nd2O3 in c oncentration ranges, form 0.25-49/(100 g base glass) on the TL-glow peaks. It was found that, for the parent glass (free of dopant ion) and glasses do ped with holmium oxide have two peaks at about 125 and 260 degrees C while the glasses doped with samarium oxide have a peak at 300 degrees C and the glasses containing neodymium oxide and both neodymium and samarium oxides h ave peaks at (140 and 300 degrees C), respectively. TL response of the glas ses after irradiation to different gamma-doses were compared with that of t he parent glass. It was found that for the base glass, the glasses containi ng 1g of Ho2O3 and 0.5 g of Sm2O3 are highly sensitive to gamma irradiation and yield a linens response covering a useful dose range 0.1-50 Gy. Becaus e of its sensitivity to low doses, these glasses can be used effectively as solid state dosimeters of which the post-irradiation annealing were studie d.
