Neural networks for device-independent digital color imaging

Color desktop publishing systems (DTP) using digital color media such as pr inters have become widely used tools for manipulating color images. With th e recent progress of the color DTP, color management techniques have become increasingly important. This paper demonstrates that a neural network is e ffective to perform the color conversion for the color management in order to achieve color matching of colors reproduced by different media. The prob lem of illuminant-dependence of color conversion is addressed. The illumina nt-independent color conversion method based on the spectral reflectance ap proximation is proposed.
