This paper describes a recent study that we have conducted in order to expl
ore the organizational and cultural impacts of rapid technological change a
nd educational developments within higher education institutions in the Uni
ted Kingdom. The user strand of the project was concerned with the use of e
lectronic resources by academic staff in higher education. This examines so
me of the findings of the project and suggest ways in which more effective
use of electronic resources by academic staff might be achieved.
