An assistant for crew performance assessment

This article describes an airline trial of a prototype personal digital ass istant (PDA) intended for use by Check Airmen and Flight or Simulator Instr uctors. The prototype PDA is capable of electronically recording, storing, and transmitting data in both simulator and airplane across a range of pilo t proficiency assessment categories. The background to the trial and our fi ndings are discussed. Potential future applications and developments releva nt to the future development of PDAs and similar equipment are also outline d. The concluding section discusses important insights and perspectives dev eloped subsequent to the trial.
