Abstract
The reactions of e(aq)(-) ,CH2OH ., (CH3)(2)COH .,CO2,.- OH . and N-3. radi cals with peroxo terpyridine complexes of Cu(II), Zn(II), and Cu(II)-Zn(II) in aqueous solution were investigated by pulse radiolysis. The primary pro ducts From the reduction and oxidation of the macrocyclic complexes were as signed a radical nature by comparing their optical spectra with those of Cu (I), Zn(I), and Cu(III) species. Such metal-ligand radical products undergo disproportionation that does not lead to the formation of Cu(0) or colloid al copper. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons. Inc.
