Two polymeric complexes of glicyne with manganese(II) have been prepared an
d characterized by means of spectroscopic and x-ray analyses. The first com
plex of the formula [Mn(Gly)Cl-2(H2O)(2)] crystallizes in the monoclinic sp
ace group P2(1)/n with a = 6.519(2), b = 15.981(3), c = 7.893(2) Angstrom,
and beta = 97.18(3)degrees. The Mn atoms are in distorted octahedral enviro
nments with all ligands in cis positions. The adjacent manganese(II) ions a
re linked in polymeric chains via carboxylate groups. The second complex [M
n(Gly)(2)Cl-2] crystallizes in the triclinic space group P(1)over bar with
a = 4.968(2), b = 6.582(2), c = 7.925(3) Angstrom, alpha = 106.17(3), beta
= 92.86(3), and gamma = 107.21(3)degrees. The octahedral-coordinated mangan
ese(II) ion is situated on a crystallographic center of symmetry and is bou
nd to four carboxylate oxygen atoms from different glicyne molecules and tw
o chloride ions.
