A 64-year-old woman presented with congestive heart failure due to severe m
itral valve stenosis and chronic atrial fibrillation. A Maze III procedure
was performed, and the mitral valve replaced with a mitral homograft. Posto
peratively, the patient regained normal sinus rhythm, had trivial mitral re
gurgitation, regained her atrial transport function, and had improved myoca
rdial function.
