Magnetic-polaron energies in various systems (e.g. donor- or acceptor-
bound magnetic polarons and free magnetic polarons) are calculated and
the relative importance of the spin-fluctuation term is investigated.
It is found that the spin fluctuations of the magnetic ions play a di
fferent role in the various kinds of magnetic-polaron complex. Futherm
ore, it is demonstrated how experimental measurements, for example the
magnetic field or temperature dependence of the polaron energy, can b
e utilized to determine the spin state of the magnetic ions within the
polaron. A clear picture of the relationship between the Mn2+ spin fl
uctuations and magnetic-polaron formation is thus revealed.
