A massive bolometer with a 760 g TeO2 crystal as energy absorber, the large
st employed underground, has been realized and operated in the Gran Sasso U
nderground Laboratory for gamma- and alpha-ray spectroscopy. A new system o
f mechanical suspensions was implemented to reduce vibration and thermal no
ise, and special care was put to the read-out electronics. As a consequence
the FWHM resolution for high-energy gamma-rays became comparable to that o
f Germanium diodes. The 4.2 keV average FWHM resolution for the 5407 keV li
ne is the best ever obtained for alpha particles with any type of detector.
