Abstract
We developed a method of (n, alpha) cross-section measurement using a gaseo us sample in a gridded ionization chamber (GIC). This method enables us to measure the cross section of gaseous samples, such as C, O and N, with very large solid angle close to 4 pi without distortion due to energy loss in t he sample. The detection efficiency, which is difficult to estimate for gas eous samples, was estimated by using GIC signals and tight neutron collimat ion. This method was verified through the C-12(n, alpha(0))Be-9 cross-secti on measurement for 14.1 MeV neutrons. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All ri ghts reserved.
