Abstract
We studied a fiber-optic temperature sensor based on the interference betwe en LP01 and LP02 modes of a circularly symmetric few mode fiber. Theoretica l analysis predicting the sensitivity of such a sensor is presented; the pr edictions are in excellent agreement with the experimentally measured value . A simple scheme for practical implementation of such a sensor is also sug gested. The proposed sensor should be easier to implement than the existing two-mode fiber sensors using elliptical-core fibers, (C) 2000 Academic Pre ss.
