Abstract
A modified chemical method for the determination of cuprous ions in some co pper phosphate glasses with high accuracy has been developed The error is f ound not to exceed 1-2%. In binary copper phosphate glasses the Cu2+/Cu-tot ratio has been found to increase with increasing CuO content from 40 to 50 mol%, then decrease with further increase of CuO from 50 to 55 mol%. Intro duction of PbO, ZnO, CnO, MgO, Li2O, Na2O and K2O at the expense of CuO in the base 50CuO.50P(2)O(5) glass clearly affect the Cu2+/Cu-tot ratios. Expl anation was given on the basis of the polarisability of oxygen ions and bas icity of the glasses.
