Quebec's health system - Historical assessment and possible future trends - Inaugural conference of the 51st Congress of the Institut d'Histoire de l'Amerique Francaise, October 1998

The author describes the main characteristics of Quebec's health system and explains how they are deeply rooted in a history, which in some cases exte nds as far back as the beginning of the century. He specifies the various t echnical, economic, political, and social factors that best explain them. I n particular, he points to the Federal Government's influence during the co urse of the century. Finally, he foresees possible trends in Quebec's healt h care system at the dawn of the twenty-first century.
