Endogenous variation of characters in plants, i.e., their variation within
an individual plant, was analyzed. Plants of a population of tetraploid win
ter rye were classified according to the similarity in some commercially im
portant characters. A specially developed classification algorithm was used
. Based on the results of analysis of endogenous variation, logico-probabil
istic models of relationships between plant characters were constructed. In
studies on selection, the results of the statistical analysis proposed can
be used for detecting the most informative characters, estimation of the r
ate of mass and individual selection, and formation of the elite core.
