Abstract
In order to assess genetic variability allozymes of red muller (Mullus barb atus) samples from eight Mediterranean Sea sites were investigated by PAGE (Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis), Three of the tested twenty-five loci were polymorphic (AAT*, SDH-2*, XDH-2*) at 95% level over all the samples. The average observed heterozygosity was 0.043. Nei's index revealed a genet ic distance ranging from. 0.000 to 0.002. F-st values indicated insignifica nt differences among the sample sites examined (AAT* = 0.009, SDH-2* = 0.01 5 XDH-2* = 0.003). The resulting mean value of F-st equals to 0.009. Gene f low estimation (value of N(e)m from F-st mean over loci) showed a value of 28 migrants per generation.
