M. Melzer et al., Community-acquired Staphylococcus epidermidis endocarditis complicated by splenic disease 9 years after aortic valve replacement, SC J IN DIS, 31(6), 1999, pp. 595-596
We describe here a case of Staphylococcus epidermidis prosthetic aortic val
ve endocarditis 9 y after valve replacement. Surprisingly, the microorganis
m was community-acquired, highly virulent and associated with splenic disea

ed antibiotic therapy. Splenectomy was not required.
