A measurement technique for determination of intraocular pressure is propos
ed in case of which the complete time response of the deformation of the co
rnea surface during the action of an air puff and also the damped vibration
after that are used to obtain the measuring values. For application of las
ers to biological objects, especially to eyes it should be taken into consi
deration that only very low radiation power is permissible, the measuring s
urfaces are spherically shaped and have a low reflectivity. Through this a
high detector sensitivity is necessary, which causes a limitation of the dy
namic measuring range. The dynamic behaviour of the measuring set-up was ch
ecked; under the condition that the radiation power is < 50 mu W at the mea
suring point a maximum target: velocity of 35 cm/s is to detect reliably. E
xaminations of different test objects demonstrate the applicability of this
measurement technique.
