A series of alloys Ce2-xDyxFe17 over a composition range (x = 0.0, 0.3, 0.5
, 1.0) were prepared from high-purity Ce, Dy and Fe by are melting under pu
rified argon atmosphere on a water-cooled copper crucible, then annealed in
vacuum at 900 K for 30 h. The X-ray diffraction pattern indicated that the
se alloys were single phase of Th2Ni17 type. Magnetization isotherms of the
se alloys were measured at temperatures between 77 and 300 K under a magnet
ic field up to 1.4 T, using vibrating sample magnetometer. We found that ma
gnetic entropy change of Ce2-xDyxFe17 (x = 0.0, 0.3, 0.5) were 1.67, 1.41 a
nd 1.18 J/kgK, for x = 0.0, 0.3 and 0.5 respectively.
