Abstract
Magnetic excitations of cobalt-based nanowires are investigated by measurin g the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation (SLR) of Co-59 in zero and 1 T applie d field. Co/Cu multilayers are shown to have a faster SLR than bulk Co. Thi s relaxation is of magnetic origin and due to the layered structure. Oxidiz ed wires have a temperature dependence of the SLR which provides direct evi dence of the thermal fluctuation of the uncompensated spins of the CoO grai ns at the surface of the wires.
